Stone Cup – CC of New Bedford (Sept 24 – 26, 2012)
Congratulations to Victoria and Leigh MacKay who defeated the team of Lindsay and Robert Muse in the Championship Flight by a score of 3 and 2. The MacKays, who play out of Southers Marsh, are repeat winners in this event– having won it in 2009. They faced a tough team as Lindsay paired up with her dad, Robert (both players from Woodland CC). The First Flight Champions are Barbara Morse and Steve Bettencourt from Plymouth CC. They defeated Judy and David Duarte (Segregansett) by a score of 2 and 1. Conditions were tricky in New Bedford as gale force winds prevailed over days 2 and 3.

New Boatwright Intern is Hired!
The WGAM welcomes Susan Hill as the 2012 Boatwright Intern. Susan has a background in business that includes supporting a buyer in manufacturing and later in the grocery business. Susan’s love of golf has led her to be a 9 year volunteer with the Deutsche Bank Championship. She has spent the last 7 years as the captain of the Media Center. She was also a volunteer in the media center of the US Senior Open in 2001, when it was held at the Salem Country Club in Peabody. Susan is excited for this opportunity to get her feet wet in tournament management with the WGAM!

New Administrative Assistant is Hired!
The WGAM welcomes Elaine Gebhardt as the new Administrative Assistant. Elaine has a lot of experience in the golf business. Her most recent position was as an Assistant Golf Professional at Dedham Country & Polo Club. She was also a manager at William J. Devine Golf Course for several years. Elaine is excited to be able to put her passion for women’s golf to work at the WGAM!

WGAM Annual Ladies’ Chair Meeting
The WGAM’s annual Chairpersons’ Luncheon was held at Brae Burn Country Club on Wednesday, January 4th. Sixty-two women attended representing 33 different clubs. The meeting began with a welcome from President Cindy Zattich who introduced the Executive Committee, Board of Directors, and office staff. Cindy thanked the attendees for being members of the WGAM. She also thanked the Club Reps and those whose clubs are hosting WGAM events this season. She reminded everyone that The WGAM is an all-volunteer organization and that the 19 Board members and the office make all of the 25 women’s and junior girls’ events happen. Cindy asked that everyone consider volunteering to help at some of our events this year, particularly for tournament administration or rules. She pointed out that it’s fun to help other women have a good day at the course, and volunteers will not be put in charge but will be fully trained and shown what to do. Message from Our President: New Executive Director is Named
It gives me great pleasure to announce the new Executive Director of the WGAM—Cathleen Beach. Cathleen has been with us for the past year in the capacity of Administrative Assistant and in that time has diligently and enthusiastically learned the workings of our office and the administration of our tournaments Cathleen has golf in her blood. Her husband, Bob, has been the head professional at Braintree for many years and was recently ranked first in “Best Teachers in Your State” in MA by a vote of his pro peers. Her father, Ken Campbell, is a NEPGA Hall of Fame member, and two of her brothers are PGA professionals as well. Her life spent immersed in Massachusetts golf has given her a wealth of experience, friendships, and contacts in the industry. And her cheerful demeanor and can-do attitude make her a wonderful fit for this position. And as the face of the WGAM. The Board of the WGAM is unanimous in its support of Cathleen’s promotion to Executive Director.

WGAM’s Isabel Southard’s Strong Show
Isabel Southard finished in third place in the Future Collegians World Tour Event played on January 15 &16 at Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto, Florida. Isabel Southard is 17 years old and lives in Sharon. She shot two 75′s to finish just three shots back of the winner Hadas Libman of Israel. GREAT JOB, ISABEL! More Info
Khang finishes second in the Junior Masters
In the Girl’s Division, Heidi Baek of England claimed her victory after a stunning 15 feet putt on the 18th green during a playoff against Megan Khang of the U.S. Baek’s three day scores were 75-75-78, followed by Khang’s 75-74-79. In third place for the ladies was Nicole Broch Larsen of Denmark with a 76-77-77. The United States Junior Masters is the final tournament in the World Junior Golf Series Tour for 2010.

Noreen Friel Mohler
has been selected as the Captain for the 2010 USA Curtis Cup team. The 2010 Curtis Cup will be held at Essex County Club in Manchester, Mass. Noreen was a 3 time Mass Women’s State Champion.
