Message from Our President New Executive Director is Named

It gives me great pleasure to announce the new Executive Director of the WGAM—Cathleen Beach. Cathleen has been with us for the past year in the capacity of Administrative Assistant and in that time has diligently and enthusiastically learned the workings of our office and the administration of our tournaments Cathleen has golf in her blood. Her husband, Bob, has been the head professional at Braintree for many years and was recently ranked first in “Best Teachers in Your State” in MA by a vote of his pro peers. Her father, Ken Campbell, is a NEPGA Hall of Fame member, and two of her brothers are PGA professionals as well. Her life spent immersed in Massachusetts golf has given her a wealth of experience, friendships, and contacts in the industry. And her cheerful demeanor and can-do attitude make her a wonderful fit for this position. And as the face of the WGAM. The Board of the WGAM is unanimous in its support of Cathleen's promotion to Executive Director.

2011 Player of the Year

Congratulations Mary! 2011 Player of the Year is Mary Chamberlain with total points of 1010. We will honor Mary at the annual meeting on November 17th. Come help us celebrate.

2011 Grace Keyes Cup

Junior-Junior and Mite Championship

August 8th & 9th held at South Shore Country Club. Congratulations to 2011 Champion Megan Khang of Rockland who shot 73-77 to beat out last year's champion Isabel Southard by two strokes. Also congratulations to other champions: Silver Flight champion Heamin Lee, Jr/Jr Champ- Erin Bugbee and Mite Champion Gabrielle Shieh.

2011 WGAM Amateur Championship

Katie Nelson, 18, of Auburn is the 2011 Amateur Champion. She won on the 18th hole after being 4 down! Mimi Johnson defeated Hillary McNeill to capture the Presidents' Cup. More details to come...

2011 Junior Season Opener

WGAM's Isabel Southard's Strong Show

Isabel Southard finished in third place in the Future Collegians World Tour Event played on January 15 &16 at Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto, Florida. Isabel Southard is 17 years old and lives in Sharon. She shot two 75's to finish just three shots back of the winner Hadas Libman of Israel. GREAT JOB, ISABEL!

Khang finishes second in the Junior Masters

In the Girl’s Division, Heidi Baek of England claimed her victory after a stunning 15 feet putt on the 18th green during a playoff against Megan Khang of the U.S. Baek’s three day scores were 75-75-78, followed by Khang’s 75-74-79. In third place for the ladies was Nicole Broch Larsen of Denmark with a 76-77-77. The United States Junior Masters is the final tournament in the World Junior Golf Series Tour for 2010.

Brittany Altomare, University of Virginia, goes wire-to-wire to win the with a 3 round total of 212! Marina Alex finishes 2nd, 4 shots back at 216. Claire Sheldon, The Country Club finished 4th with a 229.

has been selected by the USGA as the captain of the USA Team for the 2010 Women's World Amateur Team Championship, to be played this October in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Granite Links Named “Course of the Year”

Congratulations Granite Links! On February 11, 2010, at the National Golf Course Owners Association Annual Meeting, Granite Links Golf Club will be recognized as “2010 Course of the Year” for the New England region.

WGAM OKs Distance Measuring Devices

The 2010 Board of Directors of the WGAM has voted to allow the use of "distance measuring devices" at our events. A detailed policy will be stated in our 2010 Blue Book.

We are saddened to report the loss of one of our "outstanding women" in the WGAM family. Edwina was award the May Jackson Award in 2001.

Noreen Friel Mohler

has been selected as the Captain for the 2010 USA Curtis Cup team. The 2010 Curtis Cup will be held at Essex County Club in Manchester, Mass. Noreen was a 3 time Mass Women's State Champion. We are excited to have a former Mass. player as captain and to have Massachusetts be the host to the Curtis Cup.
